Inkbee is a reading app. This policy explains what information Inkbee collects, why it’s needed, who helps us process it, and how you can get your data out or delete it. It covers the Inkbee app, the Inkbee api, and this website.

The short version: your reading activity is yours. We collect what the app needs to work, we don’t sell your information or use it for advertising, and you can export or delete it at any time.

Information you give us

Inkbee needs some information for practical or technical reasons. This includes:

Information collected automatically

Like most apps and websites, Inkbee automatically records some technical information as you use it: your IP address, device type and app version, when you sign in, and how much you use AI features. We use it to keep your devices in sync, send notifications if you turn them on, prevent abuse, manage costs, and fix problems. It doesn’t include the text of your documents.

We don’t use advertising identifiers, third-party analytics, tracking pixels or fingerprinting, in the app or on this website.

Storage on your device

This website sets no cookies.

The app keeps two things on your device. Your sign-in token is stored in the iOS Keychain so you don’t have to sign in each time you open Inkbee. A local copy of your library is kept in an on-device database so you can read offline and changes sync when you reconnect. Both stay on your device until you delete the app.

How inklings use your reading

To answer a question or comment on a passage, Inkbee sends the relevant text to an AI model. Depending on the request, that can include the selected passage and the sentence or section around it, the document’s title and summary, your related highlights and active projects, and the inkling’s memory of you. These requests always go from our server, through OpenRouter, to the model provider, such as Anthropic. Your device never contacts these providers directly, and they don’t receive your email address.

We don’t allow providers to use your content to train their models.

Some inklings go looking for new reading in topics you follow. Their web search queries are based on those topics, not on your identity.

You can turn AI off for any document. With AI off, nothing from that document is sent to a model, inklings stay quiet, and saving, reading, highlighting and exporting work as usual.

How we use your information

We don’t sell your information, share it for advertising, or use your documents for anything other than providing Inkbee to you. We don’t read your library. The exceptions are when you ask us to, for example to help with a support request, or when it’s needed to investigate abuse or comply with the law.

Who helps us run Inkbee

These service providers process data on our behalf, only to provide their service to us:

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of our users or the service.

Retention and deletion

Security

Connections to Inkbee are encrypted, sign-in uses expiring one-time codes instead of passwords, codes and session tokens are stored only in hashed form, and files are kept in private storage that devices can reach only through short-lived links. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data, and we’ll tell you promptly if a breach affects it.

International users

Inkbee’s servers are in the United States. If you use Inkbee from elsewhere, your information will be transferred to, stored and processed in the United States.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we’ll also let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
